The southern part is categorized in three families that is Nshongi group, Mishaya, and Nkuringo group well and Northern part of the park includes the Oruzogo group, the Mubare group, Bitukura group, Habinyanja group, and Rushara group.

When it comes to Mgahinga gorilla national park for it has only habituated group and this is due to the size of the park, this habituated gorilla group is composed of 9 members with silverbacks. And since the park is so close to Volcanoes national park in Rwanda, this gorilla group is a migratory group which border crosses between Uganda and Rwanda thus making it a difficult gorilla group to track.

In general, each Gorilla families are led by a dominant silverback that protects their territories and the families is stipulated with female gorillas, Juveniles, infants, and offsprings.

Bwindi Impenetrable national park and Mgahinga national park are the two major national parks in Uganda where you can see gorillas in their protected nature habitant.
