Horse riding in Lake Mburo national park, is one of the most interesting things that makes one to feel part of nature. One comes closer to the most timid animals for example when doing horse riding, zebras come close to you with their black and white stripes but still keep a distance. Horse riding is done for about two five hours ride across the African Savannah accentuated at Lake mburo accompanied with the rolling hills valleys and various lakes in and around lake mburo. It is the only park in Uganda to carry out a game of horse riding.
Mihingo safari lodge runs the horse riding safaris and has seven horses and of which four of them are ponies and maximum of six participant can be taken in a single safari. Although this ride is prepared but also one has to put in mind the effects of climate changes because year and weather affects the number of animals to be seen from the park meaning that also that should be remarked.
Horse riding in Lake mburo, are managed by a well experienced staff, in that in they intend to adjust on the rides according to the rider’s experience and ability. Therefore the beginners and inexperienced riders are recommended that they should walk in order to prevent issues of accidents although they are being guided by experienced guides. This mainly results from the relief of the park which is not favorable for the learners.
For the advanced riders there are lovely stretches for trotting and cantering. Mihingo lodge operates the horse riding activities outside the park since 2008 but in November 2009 the it received a concession to operate horse riding safaris inside the park and this led to the discovery of fantastic routes in the park that could be catalyzed by the growth of the activity in the park.
The more exhilarating rides in the park are being recommended for the more experienced riders which mainly takes a duration of four to five hours, and during this duration they get a chance to move around the grassy warukiri range of hills that is found in the middle of the park. In other words they get a chance to reach to the heart of nature in Lake mburo national park.
Horse riding In Lake mburo national park, for the advanced riders, when they get to the middle of the park, from high above on the warukiri ridge they have a stunning 360 degrees view and are able to view all the wonderful surrounding hills and valleys that are in the park. Still from the furthest hill you will find a water hole and from here one gets an opportunity to view a big herd of buffalos enjoying the cool air from the shores of the lakes around the park that is free of dust but just pure. And also still here they are exposed to the great view of the lakes around the park.
Horse riding in Lake mburo national park, has led an out and rise of new breeds of animals in the park, and those best for this are the horses but still the types of horses kept at the park, include the thoroughbred. This type of is the strongest of all horses at the park and this type of breed originated from Kenya. It is able to carry a maximum weight of about 95 kilograms. Another type horse is the ponies it also originated from Kenya. The bahari is the little stallion who was successful and sired four youngsters and the ponies for children to ride.
The horses have got the best stables situated in a good location that keeps it saturated with air and sun light hence keeping the horses in good conditions. The stables are open enough, aired with large boxes for horses and it also contains numerous padlocks surrounding them which helped to keep the horses safe from the attack of predators for example the hyenas that are found in the park. There is a good team known as the stable team that is concerned with keeping the horses’ safe and providing them with food.
Horse riding in Lake mburo Is well organized in that, also the horses have got a program that governs them during the day and night. During the day horses graze with other animals that is to say with zebras and they only enter their stable boxes for dinner in the evening and protection from the hyenas.
A system was put in place since their laws that are concerned with animals, to measure all people that are willing to ride the horses before they ride the horses. This system was to prevent the rapid death of horses that was caused by the horses carrying an excess weight beyond their ability and capacity. So a maximum weight was setup that should not be exceeded in order for one to go for the ride and this weight was 100 kilograms. Although not all horses in the can support this weight. Therefore most of the horses can not carry a weight more than 85 kilograms so dear visitors do not be offended reaching the place and your kindly requested to be weighed but all this is done to prevent damaging of horses.
One willing to go for horse riding will be fully provided with safety equipments the can prevent him or her from being damaged just in case of any accident that may arise in the middle of the ride and one of the equipment’s include the helmet that is concerned with the head of the rider, the riding chaps , but still one is advised to come putting on strong shoes if possible with heels.
