List of attractions to visit in Queen Elizabeth National Park : There are various attractions which can be seen during tours around Queen Elizabeth national park located in the south western part of Uganda.

Queen Elizabeth national park is considered to be one of the best places for safaris in Uganda and some of the attractions found in the destination include the following;

  1. Wildlife species

Wildlife species are among the major attractions that are found in Queen Elizabeth National Park and they can be seen during safaris at the destination.

Some of the wildlife species found around Queen Elizabeth national park include elephants, buffalos, lions, leopards, hippos, impalas, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs, hyenas, topi, bushbucks, kudu, reedbucks and many others.

Queen Elizabeth national park is home to over 95 mammal species which can be seen during safaris. Activities during which the wildlife species can be spotted include game drives in the morning and afternoon, lion tracking, boat safaris, mongoose tracking, lion tracking, guided nature walks among others.

  1. Bird species

Over 600 bird species are found around Queen Elizabeth national park and can be spotted during safaris at the destination.

Some of the bird species in Queen Elizabeth national park include Martial eagles, African Fish eagle, Yellow backed weaver, Red-capped Lark, Yellow Billed Storks, Grey capped Warbler, Cormorants, Grey crowned cranes, Malachite Kingfishers, Hammerkops, Swamp Flycatcher, Rwenzori Turaco, African Green Pigeon, White Headed Barbet, African wattled plovers,  Red Capped Lark, Broad Tailed Warbler, among others.

The bird watching experiences can be done around different parts of Queen Elizabeth national park such as around Mweya peninsula, Kazinga channel, Kasenyi plains among other parts of the national park.

  1. Kasenyi plains

The Kasenyi plains in Queen Elizabeth national park are among the best locations to see different wildlife species during safaris.

They are located in the eastern part of Queen Elizabeth national park and some of the wildlife species found in this area include lions and also various species of antelopes as well as different bird species. Around the Kasenyi area, tourists can enjoy game drives, lion tracking among other activities during their safaris.

  1. Kyambura gorge

The Kyambura gorge is one of the beautiful attractions found in Queen Elizabeth national park and it consists of forests and is home to different wildlife and bird species.

Chimpanzees are among the primates that can be seen around the Kyambura gorge which is also home to many other primates such as vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons among others. Chimpanzee tracking is among the activities which can also be done around the Kyambura gorge.

Hiking and guided nature walks are also carried out when visiting the Kyambura gorge during tours around Queen Elizabeth national park.

  1. Kazinga channel

The Kazinga channel is another popular attraction to visit during safaris around Queen Elizabeth national park.

Activities that can be done around the Kazinga channel include boat safaris which can be done in the morning and in the afternoon. During the activity which takes about 2 hours, tourists can see various wildlife species such as hippos, buffalos and elephants as well as Nile crocodiles by the water shores.

Different bird species such as Malachite Kingfishers, African Fish Eagles, Yellow Billed Storks, Martial Eagles, Yellow-backed Weavers among others can also be seen during tours around the Kazinga channel which is formed where Lake George meets Lake Edward.

  1. Mweya peninsula

Tourists can also visit the Mweya peninsular during their safaris around Queen Elizabeth national park which is located along the shores of the Kazinga channel.

Different wildlife species can be seen when visiting the Mweya peninsula and they include elephants, buffalos, waterbucks, impalas, kudu, Uganda kobs, mongoose and many others. There are also various bird species which can be seen around the area.

When visiting the Mweya peninsula, tourists can also enjoy views of the Kazinga channel and the rest of the national parks and its surroundings.

  1. Katwe salt lakes

The Katwe salt lakes are also among the attractions found in Queen Elizabeth national park and they can be visited during tours around the destination.

Salt mining takes place around the Katwe lakes and this activity is done by the locals. Around the lakes, there are also different bird species including flamingos. Tourists can also enjoy craft shopping and wildlife viewing in the Katwe area.

  1. Crater lakes

There are also different crater lakes that are found around Queen Elizabeth national park where tourists can enjoy amazing views of the lakes and also relax.

Queen Elizabeth national park has about 10 crater lakes found in the surrounding area and they include the  Katwe lakes, Bunyaruguru lake, Lake Nyamusingiri, Lake Nziranga, Lake Kisanga, Lake Kamunzuku , Lake Rutoto, Lake Katinda, Lake Kyema among others.

The crater lakes were formed as a result of volcanic activity and they are very scenic attractions to visit during safaris in Queen Elizabeth national park.

  1. Tree climbing lions in Ishasha sector

The Ishasha sector is another part of Queen Elizabeth national park to visit during safaris in Uganda and it is home to various wildlife species including tree climbing lions.

Lion

Tree climbing lions are a unique attraction only found in Queen Elizabeth national park in Uganda and can also be seen in Lake Manyara national park in the northern part of Tanzania. These lions can be spotted in the tree branches of acacia trees around the Ishasha sector.

Other wildlife species found around Ishasha sector include Uganda kobs, waterbucks, impalas, bushbucks among others.

  1. Kalinzu forest

The Kalinzu forest is another attraction which can be visited during tours in Queen Elizabeth national park.

Different wildlife and bird species are found in the Kalinzu forest which is also home to chimpanzees and other primates.

  1. The equator

The equator in Uganda also crosses Queen Elizabeth national park and can be visited during tours around the destination.

Tourists can enjoy taking photos around the equator and also enjoy the water experiment at the equator which is done by the locals.
