To note, Rushanga sector is positioned in southern Uganda Bwindi forest in Rushanga region and it was appointed aside for habituation experience –‘’CHEX’’ in Uganda, since this activity involves in visiting one of the gorilla family in Bwindi forest, as Gorilla habituation experience which can be conducted in Rushanga sector where you be able to habituate in Byakyingi gorilla group which is led by 1 silverback, 9 adult females, 2 sub-adults and 9 infants and another gorilla groups in the sector is known as Bushaho gorilla family.

Gorilla habituation Experience is a process where mountain gorillas are trained to get used to people. That is why Rushanga sector was selected as the only area where gorilla habituation experience can be carried out, it’s because gorillas of these sectors are trained between two to three years in order to be completed as researchers keep on visiting this wild gorilla group on daily basis through vaccinating the sick gorillas and also to take care of them. And as they as being catered for the researcher they get to learn more about individual gorillas and the way they behave in the montane rain forest of Bwindi.
By the time, these gorillas get used to these researchers and each individual gorilla is given a name. When the researchers confirm that these mountain gorillas can be trekked, they then introduce a new system of mock exercise where some prominent people can first visit this gorilla group who may include scientists, journalists and visiting it. Once such gorilla family has passed through mock exercise, then it can be officially opened for Gorilla habituation experience.
Travelers who wish to engage in Bwindi Gorilla habituation experience can book as early as possible because at Uganda wildlife Authority offices gorilla trekking permits are limited in number and especially in peak season the demand for purchasing a permit is high maybe during low season when you can get it even at the last minute. When does gorilla habituation experience Start
Unlike gorilla trekking which begins at 8:30 am, mountain gorilla habituation starts at 7:30 am after briefing is done as early as possible for you to start your trekking experience.

Ideally, Gorilla habituation experience can only be done in two gorilla sectors of Bwindi that is the Rushanga and Nkuringo sector.
This activity can be done in one of the gorilla family in this sector since there are two mountain gorilla families being habituated as compared to other regions with no gorilla families under habituation.
It is more advisable for our client who may visit Bwindi on Gorilla habituation experience to always tell their tour operator to book their accommodation facilities near to Rushanga or Nkuringo sector since this activity requires an early start. Gorilla trekking permit per now still costs USD600 but by 1st July 2020, it will be costing USD700 person per group. The time given to trekkers is only 1 hour with habituated mountain gorillas.
Gorilla Habituation experience permits cost USD1500 per person per day in order to be allowed to spend 4 hours with mountain gorillas still under habituation. This activity can only take place in regions where mountain gorilla is under habituation namely Rushanga where you trek in new gorilla group of Bushaho and Bikingi which are under habituation.
What is the minimum age for Habituating Gorillas?
The minimum age for trekkers in mountain gorilla habituation experience is 15 years old and above.
