Sempaya hot springs – The Female and male hot springs in Uganda : Sempaya hot springs consists of the famous female and male hot springs locally known for their healing power and a place to connect with ancestors. Found in the far western part of Uganda close to Ituri forest, these hot springs are scenically situated in Semuliki National Park in Bundibugyo district which borders the Democratic Republic of Congo this will indeed make ones’ Uganda wildlife safari experience in Semuliki National Park even much better . The female hot spring is locally known as Nyansimbi or Nyasimbe while the male hot spring is known as Biteete or Bintente these were named by the local people commonly known as the Bakonjo. This healing can however be obtained through many ways such as ritual bathing that involves bathing in the warm water while believing and having faith that it has properties that can cure a disease one is suffering from, Ancestral prayers which involves offering prayers and sacrifices to the Gods for example beer milk, animals like goats, sheep, chickens, food offerings, prayers and incantations, beads and adornments among others to enable the Gods to protect you. Herbal remedies Like local plants and herbs which are believed to be having medicinal properties to treat various diseases when they are mixed with the warm water to create a healing concoction, Steam inhaling, massage and physical therapy among others.
Fertility capabilities: this is believed to be carried out depending on the gender of the individual. If one is a woman, there infertility issues are healed by the female hot spring in this case Nyansimbi while the male infertility issues are cured by the male hot spring known as Biteete which is believed to improve the overall fertility.
Protection from evil spirits and purification: the local Bakonjo believe that when one showers the warm water from the hot spring they are able to wash all misfortunes and additionally protect themselves from any evil or misfortunate event that IS likely occur to them.
Traditional rituals and ceremonies:
Ceremonies and rituals such as marriage for example, involve traditional couples perform their traditional marriage rites at the hot springs while asking the ancestral gods to bless their marriage and also give them the capability to be able to give birth to healthy children, naming, initiation rituals this involves young men and women showering in the hot springs to be able to transition to adults and funeral ceremonies mainly when sending their dead family and friends among others.

The best time to visit both the female and male hot springs of Sempaya found in Semuliki national park is during the dry season consisting of the months of December, January, February, June, July and august as during this season the trails are less muddy thus becoming more accessible and wildlife can be easily spotted.
