Getting to Kibale National Park
Getting to Kibale national park can easily be accessed by road transport since there is no nearby airstrip to the park. Kibale Forest Park is renowned as Uganda’s primate’s cin western region of Uganda on an area of about 795 square kilometers and elevated at 1,100 meters to 1,600 meters high above the sea level.
Kibale national park is located in the western part of Uganda aboutapital, marking one of the top safari destination in Africa where you encounter in chimpanzee trekking. The park is located 348kilometers which is 5-hour drive from Kampala to Fort port. Then from Fort port it takes about 26 kilometers south east of its beautiful town which is one of the loveliest places to visit on your safari to Uganda.
Kibale National Park sits in the south of Fort Portal district. From Fort portal town to Kanyanchu the headquarters to the park takes about 26.2 kilometers and it’s a drive of about 30minutes.
Kasese town is positioned south of Kibale Forest Park which is 98kilomters away by road. The journey from Kasese district to Kibale Forest takes about 2 hours.
You can still get to Kibale Forest park passing via Kamwenge town which is located east of the park and takes 39kilomteres in a 40-minute drive.
On tour to kibale forest you can choose to travel from other national parks like Queen Elizabeth National park and Semuliki Wildlife Reserve, which means that one can tour to one of these national park and later make away to Kibale.
From Queen Elizabeth National Park to Kibale forest is about 142kilometers.The journey that takes 3hours drive by road.
From Semuliki Wildlife Reserve to Kibale Forest Park covers a distance of about 67kilometers and a drive of 1hour and 20 minutes.
Alternatively, travelers who prefer to use a charter flight can board a flight from Entebbe Airport to Mweya Airstrip in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Then from here be pick by the tour guide and drives you to Kibale forest in less than 2 or 3hours.
Note, all tours done in Kibale forest are expected to start from Kanyanchu Wildlife Center most especially Chimpanzee trekking experience.
Kibale national park is home of bio diversity of species with over 351 tree species,70 mammal species mostly the 13 species of primates such as endangered red colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, Olive baboons, grey cheeked mangabey, bush babies, pottos including great chimpanzees and also contains over 375 species of birds such as green breasted pitta, Africa pitta ,black bee-eater, Abyssinian ground thrush ,yellow spotted nicator ,little greenbul, brown chested alethe ,blue-breasted kingfisher ,yellow rumped tinker bird among others. There are other wild animals though difficult to be spotted such as leopards, elephants and duikers. The park offers different types of habitat ranging from wet tropical forest on the Fort portal plateau to woodland and savannah on the rift valley floor.
Best Time to Visit
Kibale Forest park can be visited throughout the year though the best time to visit the park is during dry season when the trails are dry and passable. This starts from December to February and then from June to September.
The wettest season occurs during March to May and September to November. The climate is usually pleasant with an average annual temperature ranging from 14 degrees to 27 degrees Celsius.
